Yvette Hulbert, 90, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, January 22, in Kiln, MS.
Yvette, daughter of George and Mathilde Lutz, was born in Strasbourg, France on January 29, 1933. She met her husband, Donald when he was a “GI” from the Bronx serving with the Army Air Corps in Germany. Yvette and Don were married on November 26, 1953 and enjoyed 65 years together and had three children. As a military wife, Yvette supported Don’s Air Force career which included taking care of their children while Don deployed to Vietnam three times and through multiple assignments stretching across West Germany, Southern California, the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, and Southern Arizona. Yvette spoke French, German and English fluently. She loved to travel, and true to her French roots, always appreciated a good slice of cheese and a nice glass of wine. She could fondly remember meals she enjoyed years ago. She loved being an American and especially valued the opportunities and freedom in American society. Still, she always jumped at any chance to visit her hometown of Strasbourg to see family and friends in France. Her most recent trip was this past June. She developed a lifelong habit of regular exercise before it was common to do so. And even in the last month of her life, one of the activities she enjoyed most was attending her water class. Yvette was an amazing model of unconditional love and hard work.
Yvette was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, who passed in 2019.
She is survived by her daughter, Muriel Wilcox of Louisville, CO, Mike Hulbert of Kiln, MS, Vince Hulbert and wife, Sherrie Hulbert of Midland Park, NJ as well as her grandchildren, Heather Denesia, Jesse Foley and wife Gwen, Ryan Hulbert and wife, Rebekah Hulbert, Jason Hulbert, Kaitlyn Hulbert and her great grandson, Dylan Denesia.
A memorial service will be held later this year.
Donations in memory of Yvette can be made to Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, 228 South Beach Blvd, Bay St. Louis, MS 39520.
