Pass Christian

Tracey Elizabeth Stieffel passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the age of 65 after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, where she lived most of her life. She grew up at 750 Dunbar Avenue in Bay St. Louis, where she was much loved, and was the sixth of ten children. She attended elementary school at Our Lady of the Gulf and graduated from Bay High in 1978 where she loved being a cheerleader.

Tracey grew up in a family of avid sailors, and swimmers. She was a competent sailor, successful in racing, and won her share of races at Bay Waveland Yacht Club, a second home of the Stieffel family.

From an early age, Tracey developed a great love of music and taught herself to play piano. She loved all music, but later in life, she tuned her ear to the Christian songs of worship she loved.

Tracey was baptized into the Catholic Church, and later in life, into the Baptist Church. She became a strong Christian and faithfully attended services at First Baptist Church on Main Street in Bay St. Louis where she also attended the ladies’ classes for as long as she was able.

Tracey worked several years in New Orleans, but eventually returned to The Bay to follow her heart designing and making children’s clothing.

She was always artistically inclined and eventually turned her focus to painting. Her work was excellent and well sought after.

Tracey's final months were spent with Chris and John Cunningham who opened their hearts and their home to her and provided a fun, loving place where friends and family were always made welcome during their visits with Tracey in her last days.

Tracey was preceded in death by her father, Ray Harwood Stieffel, Jr. and her mother, Ann Chapman Stieffel.

She is survived by her nine siblings, Sally Ann Stieffel, Ray H. (Woody) Stieffel, III, Kathleen Marie Stieffel, Christine Stieffel Cunningham (John), Cynthia Stieffel Cady (Larry), Rodney Henry Stieffel (Diana), Dennis Chapman Stieffel (Debbie), Lawrence Bishop Stieffel and Matthew James Stieffel.

Special gratitude is expressed to Notre Dame Hospice and Healing Hands Home Healthcare, particularly Latoya Dampier, as well as the ladies of First Baptist Church, for loving care and friendship in her final months.

A Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church on Main Street in Bay St. Louis on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. There will be a lunch reception in the Fellowship Hall immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Home of Grace, Vancleave, MS.
