Thomas Adrien Bratton (93) of Waveland, Mississippi, passed away February 5th, 2024. He had struggled for four weeks to recover from multiple injuries he suffered from a fall in his home in early January.
Thomas was born in Thorsby, Alabama to parents Willie Thomas Bratton and Thelma Delene Bratton. After graduating from Jemison High School, Jemison, Alabama, in 1949, Thomas joined the Air Force and made that his career, retiring in 1969 after serving 20 years and attaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He served in Germany, England, Iran, Taiwan, Alaska, and finally in Biloxi Mississippi. After retiring from active duty, Thomas was hired by the Air Force to continue his last active duty assignment, which was teaching electronics at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi. He worked there for another 24 years as a civilian employee, retiring for good in 1994. He was very proud of his 44 total years of service to our country.
Thomas was an avid fisherman who would venture miles out into the gulf, fishing around the many islands off the coast of Mississippi. He owned various seaworthy crafts over the years, and actually built the first one while living in Gulfport. He was also very good with electronics and once built a personal computer from scratch. He loved working crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed photography and reading science publications, which he would discuss at length.
In 1952, he married Christiane Taillifet of France, whom he met while stationed in England. They had two children. Thomas and Christiane divorced in 1960 and Christiane passed away in 1979. While stationed at Keesler, Thomas met and married Audrey Moran of Waveland, Mississippi in 1963. They had no children, and Audrey passed away in 2001. He then married Mai Sanders, a widowed neighbor, in 2013. Mai passed away in 2020.
Thomas was also predeceased by parents Willie Bratton and Thelma Bratton, brothers Richard Huey Bratton Sr. and Loyce Henry Bratton. He is survived by daughters Linda Cobbe and Gisele Maupied, stepson Henry Michael Dacus, sister Mary Ellen (Ron) Smith, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces, and great grand nephews.
A memorial service will be Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, MS at 10:00 AM. The interment will follow at Waveland Cemetery.
