Steve "Bondo" C. Matthis, Sr.

Steve C. "Bondo" Matthis, Sr.,72, of Pearlington, MS passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in Pearlington, MS.

Steve was born in New Orleans East and spent 30 vibrant years in Slidell, LA, before making Pearlington his home for the past nine years. A dedicated member of St. Joseph Chapel in Pearlington and the Krew of Dionysus in Slidell, he devoted his life to community and family. Those who knew him will fondly remember his love for seafood feasts shared with friends and family, as well as a few beers that always accompanied the laughter.

Steve had a passion for tinkering—repairing cars, boats, and Harley Davidson motorcycles brought him immense joy. His fond memories of boating and fishing, especially at the camp, remain a testament to his spirited and adventurous nature. Yet, above all, he was deeply devoted to his loving wife, "Liz," and his two beloved sons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin C. and Marie Louise Celino Matthis; his sister, Susan C. Matthis Gantar; brother-in-law, Edward Gantar; his godchild, Kelli Marie Daigle; along with numerous cherished aunts and uncles, whose memories he held dear.

His legacy continues through his wonderful wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Mankin Matthis; his sons, Steven C. Matthis, Jr. (Karen) and Jason T. Matthis; his two step-granddaughters, Kali Cookmeyer and Kaci Cookmeyer; sister, Lisa Matthis Daigle (Rock); brother-in-law, Donald F. Mankin, Jr.; three god-daughters, Kim Matthis, Danielle Gillot, and Tara McGovern York; numerous nieces and nephews and his two adored fur babies, Molly Expresso and Lulu Latte'. Each of them carries forward his spirit and love.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Steve's life during visitation on Monday, December 16, 2024, at St. Joseph Chapel from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon. A private burial will take place at a later date.
