Raymond George Heitzmann, or Ray as he was called, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, in Bay St. Louis, MS after a 10-year battle with Parkinson's disease.
He was born on January 8, 1950, in Bay St. Louis to Carl G. Heitzmann and Velma A. Zengarling Heitzmann.
Ray was a special person. Although he was born with a serious physical handicap, he never thought of himself as being handicapped, and to the contrary, if you told him he couldn't do something, he was quick to show you he could. Ray was a fisherman extraordinaire, a dedicated hunter, and a master billiards player. He was also a talented draftsman. Ray graduated from St. Stanislaus High School in 1968 and was a life-long member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Carl G. Heitzmann and Velma A. Zengarling Heitzmann; brother, Carl J. Heitzmann and sister-in-law, Mimi Monti Heitzmann.
He is survived by his son, Dustin C. Heitzmann of Tucson, AZ; step-daughter, Sherrilyn Burns of Bay St. Louis, MS and brother, Jerry Heitzmann (Debbie) of Diamondhead, MS.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 22, 2023 at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. followed by a Christian Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in Bay St. Louis, MS.
A special thanks goes out to his ex-wife, Loretta Gilbert, and her husband, A.J. They spent many hours, over the past year, helping Ray with his medical and physical needs.
