Michael John Gremillion, 73, of Ansley, passed away on December 23, 2024. Beloved and treasured husband of Tracey S. Gremillion. Born in Nashville, TN to the late Esmond B. Gremillion and late Margaret Gremillion,
Michael was raised in Gretna, LA and graduated from Martin Behrman High School in 1969. He spent many years in Slidell, where he was an active member of the Krewe of Dionysus and enjoyed a long career in sales, first at Carter’s Flooring & Appliance and then as Sales Manager at Blossman Gas in Biloxi. In 1997, he moved to Ansley, the place that would become his own private paradise.
Michael (or Mike, Mikey, or Moochy to his closest friends) enjoyed taking visitors on a boat ride through Heron Bay, where he’d point out pods of dolphins, sunning gators, and the ruins of an old Prohibition era resort. He especially enjoyed fishing there with a cold beer in hand (and if it wasn’t a good day, he’d joke that the Fish Finder must be playing a pre-recorded tape). For visitors and neighbors, he was quick to rig up a fishing rod and provide a lesson as needed more than one niece and grandnephew got their first catch this way. And if they joined him for a meal at his table, they were treated to his quick wit, laughter, warm curiosity, and if they were really lucky a helping of his famous fried turkey. Mike loved sharing his view of the marsh from his porch, where he took in the sunsets and lightning storms and watched for the return of migrating whistling ducks. And whether he was in his favorite easy chair with his dogs or doing work around the property, he especially loved sharing the place with and often gently teasing his beloved Tracey, for whom he was a rock for 43 years. His faith in the Lord was private but deep, and we are comforted to know that he has a new paradise now, one untouched by hurricane, mosquito, or heat wave.
Michael was a treasured family member to many. He was the father of Michael John Gremillion, Jr. and the late Nicole Marie Gremillion; stepfather of Terrence Scott Nunn and Richard Todd Nunn; and grandfather to the late Nicholas Gremillion and Spence Michael Gremillion. He was the brother of Karen Selenberg, Donna Madacsi, and Kenneth Gremillion. Uncle to Kirk Selenberg, Lauren Selenberg Ireland, Conner Gremillion, Brian Madacsi, Jeffrey Madacsi, Scott Rampona, Deborah Rampona, Daniel Price, Cassia Rivera, Darby Price, Gabe Hochmuth, and Andrew Hochmuth. Great Uncle to John Thomas Selenberg, Caroline Selenberg, Olivia Price, David Price, Eli Rivera, Cai Rivera, Wren Seward, Josie Oliver, Jonathan Oliver, Maddy Rampona, Ranger Rampona, and Bon Rampona.
We will all miss him terribly until the day we’re reunited, as we know he is with those who preceded him. In honoring his wishes, there will be no services. The family will gather together to celebrate Mike and his life.
