Melvin "Whitey" Douglas Barnes, Sr. 84, of Bay St. Louis, MS passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024 in Bay St. Louis, MS.
He was born in Commerce, GA. He attended Logtown & Bay High School. He worked for the Sheriff Dept, Coast Electric and retired from Stennis Space Center in 2005 after 40 years as a high voltage lineman.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Jones Barnes; father, Marvin Barnes; three brothers, Charles Barnes, George Barnes, and Tommy Barnes, and sister, Jeanie Barnes Evans.
He is survived by his wonderful and loving wife of 66 years, Doris Estapa Barnes; daughter, Cindy B. Elliott (David); son, Melvin D. Barnes, Jr. (Christy); three grandchildren, Ramie Barnes (Blake), Kristen Barnes (Ian), and Katelyn Bradford (Jordan); five great-grandchildren, Stephen Hutchison Jaxon Schneider, Stella Werner, Jordan Bradford IV, and Steele Werner; brother, James H. Barnes (Rosie); sister-in-law, Barbara Barnes; and Godchild, Jenae Ladner Jones (Jody).
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Bay St. Louis, MS.
