Luther Ladner, 75, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 9, 2022 in his hometown of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
His battle with cancer and Alzheimer’s disease in recent years showed his courage in confronting life’s challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Luther persevered as a hero and stayed strong until the end.
Born to Claiborne Ladner and Beatrice Williams Ladner on November 2, 1946, Luther had a lifelong passion for photography and an immense talent for capturing the beauty of life’s little moments through a lens. Purveyor of Dad jokes, lover of Blue Bell ice cream, and “Jeopardy!” trivia whiz, Luther was regarded as a kind and honest husband, father, and friend – always willing to help a neighbor in need.
Luther is survived by his wife, Shannon Leary Ladner; his daughters, Miriam “Mimsie” Ladner and Morgan Ladner Salley (Josh); his granddaughter, Grier Salley; his brother, Wayne Ladner (Patricia); his best friend, Charlie Morgan; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the “family” at Dunbar Village and the entire team of Notre Dame Hospice for their compassion and care throughout the final months of Luther’s life.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 12, 2022 at 3pm with a Mass at 4pm at St. Clare Catholic Church in Waveland, Mississippi. The service is to be followed by a burial at Bayou Lacroix Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund on Luther's behalf.
