Louis Samuel Jacobi, Sr., of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, passed away on October 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, after a month battling the rare auto-immune disease myasthenia gravis.
Son of the late Virginia Carver and Louis John Jacobi, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janis Eble Jacobi; son Louis S. Jacobi, Jr., and wife April of Clayton, NC; daughter Beth Jacobi Bergeron and husband Jason of Thibodaux, LA; grandsons Matthew Jacobi and Preston, Parker, and Tyler Bergeron; and brothers Herman Jacobi of Jackson, MS, and Aloysius Jacobi of Bay St. Louis, MS.
He was a graduate of St. Stanislaus College and Southeastern Louisiana University. After a career in a variety of banking and accounting positions in the New Orleans area, he retired to Bay St. Louis just in time to build a home that was demolished by Hurricane Katrina. After rebuilding their home in the Bay, he and his wife acquired a hurricane retreat in the country, near McComb, MS. There he spent many days tinkering with riding lawn mowers and tractors and exploring on his four-wheeler for good places to build deer stands for hunting season. He had a wide range of acquaintances whom he delighted in teasing, and once he mastered the cell phone he would often phone or text with random queries. He had a nickname or two for everyone. He loved to eat and was an unofficial food critic who could detect the subtle flavors in almost any dish.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Clare’s Catholic Church in Waveland, MS, on Saturday, October 12, at 11 AM. Burial at Waveland Cemetery will follow. Visitation will be held at the church from 10-11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Stanislaus College: 304 S. Beach Blvd. Bay St. Louis, MS 39520 or www.ststan.com.
