It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jon C. Thornburg, a man whose love, kindness, and dedication touched the lives of all who knew him. Jon departed this world peacefully on December 11, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his father Clarence Thornburg and survived by his mother Jewel Hill, wife Myrna, children Alex, Jason, Aaron, and Elizabeth, his siblings Ann, Ray, and Clarrisa and his grandchildren.
Born in Auburn Washington on July 26, 1960, had a nomadic early life as his father’s job as a NASA engineer had them move as his job needed him. Finally landing in Louisiana where he would meet Myrna Courege, his forever Joy and her children that he accepted as his with an open heart. Together they would embark on a life together that would take them to California and back and settling in Kiln MS.
Jon was a devoted husband to Myrna for 37 years, sharing a bond of love and partnership that stood as a shining example to everyone around them. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and unwavering support. As a father, Jon was extraordinary in guiding, inspiring, and loving his children, with every fiber of his being. His pride in them was boundless, and the lessons he imparted will live on for generations. One of Jon’s greatest joys was his grandchildren, whom he loved beyond measure. He relished every moment spent with them, whether it was sharing stories, teaching life lessons, or simply enjoying their company. He brought boundless energy and affection to these relationships, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Jon’s life was a testament to the power of love, hard work, and kindness. Imparted on him by his parents; and his siblings with whom he shared a deep bond. Professionally, Jon served as a Chapter 13 Trustee with distinction. He graduated Cum Laude from National University School of Law in San Diego, California, in 1993. In Law School, he was on Law Review, received the S.H.A.P.E. Award (Student Honors Advisory Program for Excellence) three years in a row, and the American Jurisprudence Award in Bankruptcy. He also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. From 1996 until his appointment, he practiced law in the area of consumer bankruptcy, handling chapter 7 and chapter 13 cases, primarily representing debtors. He practiced law in San Diego, California, from 1993 until 2003, then Biloxi, Mississippi, from 2003 until 2008. Jon C. Thornburg was appointed Chapter 13 Trustee for Alexandria, Louisiana, in August 2008. The Alexandria division covers nine parishes in the central region of Louisiana and is part of the Western District of Louisiana. His integrity, diligence, and commitment to justice earned him the deep respect of his peers and colleagues. He approached his work with a sense of purpose, always striving to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others. Beyond his professional and familial roles, Jon was a loyal and steadfast friend. His warmth, wisdom, and generosity of spirit created lasting bonds with all who had the privilege of knowing him. While he will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him and the countless lives he touched.
A celebration of Jon’s life will be held Saturday, December the 21st, 2024 at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home. Viewing will take place from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a service at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at Rotten Bayou Cemetery in Diamondhead.
