Gayle Avenel Escher, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 24, 2024 in Gulfport, MS.
She was born in New Orleans, LA and was a resident of Diamondhead, MS.
Gayle was deeply religious and embraced her Catholic faith. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a graduate of F. T. Nicholls High School (Rebels), class of 1955. When you met Gayle, you met a friend for life. She loved photography, bible classes, and celebrating life with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert A. and Alice Leveque Avenel; two sisters, Stenie Avenel Noonan (Harold) and Jeannine Avenel Saucier (Dennis).
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald Bruce Escher; three sons, Donald M. (Liz), Brett (Melanie) and Robert (Missy); three grandchildren, Eric Escher (Ashley), Katie Koehl (Jesse), and Claire Escher; five great-grandchildren, Eli Escher, Abram Escher, Belle Escher, Silas Escher, and Jaxson Koehl; sister, Sharon Avenel Darby (John) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Pass Christian, MS from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.
Burial to take place at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
