Clyde C. Koerner, Sr., 100 yrs and 1 month old, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025. He was surrounded by his family. 

Clyde was preceded in death by his spouse, Patsy Koerner; mother, Marietta M. Dillmann Monti Koerner; father, Leonard P. Koerner; sister, Iris M. Koerner; brother, Joseph L. Koerner; daughter, Patricia Abney; granddaughter, Patricia Holland; grandson, Ricky Stubbs; and great granddaughter, Megan Holland. 

He is survived by son, Clyde Koerner, Jr.; daughters, Harriet Koerner and Josie Koerner; eight grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and eighteen great-great grandchildren.

Clyde proudly served in the United States Navy, serving on the Battleship USS San Diego CL-53, The USS San Diego was one of the most decorated US ships of World War II, being awarded 18 battle stars, and was the first major allied warship to enter Tokyo Bay after the surrender of Japan, Armed with 16 5” (127 mm)/38 cal. DP Anti-Aircraft guns and 16 Bofors 40 mm AA guns. The Atlanta-class Cruisers had one of the heaviest anti-aircraft broadsides of any warship of World War II. 

As many know, Clyde was a beloved model builder. Many have visited his Facebook page that his granddaughter Rene set up for him called Tuesday’s with Clyde. He loved showing off his models as much as he loved building them. At this time his models can be seen on display at the Kate Lobrano House, home of the Hancock County Historical Society, 108 Cue St., Bay St. Louis, MS. Special thanks to Doc Jim for the special articles he wrote about our dad, and time spent with him reminiscing on Hancock County old families and historical places. Thank you, Jim (Doc). 

The family also wants to give special thanks to Vital Care Home Health in Gulfport, MS, with many thanks to his special nurse, Amber Dellenger, could not have asked for a better nurse. Daddy was like a paw-paw to her, and she treated him as well. 

A private ceremony will be held at a later date, with interment taking place in Cedar Rest Cemetery following a Military farewell.
