Cheryl “Cherri” Phillips McIntyre, 77, of Waveland, MS, originally from New Orleans, LA, passed away peacefully at St Joseph Hospice on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage on January 6, 2023. She was a member of St. Rose de Lima Catholic Church.
Cherri was an avid knitter and one of the “Mockingbird Knitters” who taught many Bay- Waveland women to knit after Hurricane Katrina. She also enjoyed the History channel, music from the 50s and 60s, and travel. Lately, she has enjoyed cruising but also took many road trips with her family all over the United States and enjoyed many overseas vacations. She loved shoes and jewelry, particularly ones embellished with cherries.
Her wit, sense of humor, and smile are qualities most often mentioned when speaking of Cherri. She could sing well but only shared that talent with her family and those around her in church. She loved baseball, especially the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs. Her most tremendous pride was her children and grandchildren.
Cherri was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Mamie Phillips, her brothers, Billy Phillips and Noel Phillips, and Noel’s wife, Betsy.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, William “Bill” McIntyre, Sr.; her three children, Kelly Chang (Alex), Shannon Brown (John), and William “Bill” McIntyre, Jr. (Lindsay); and her three grandchildren, Audrey Chang and Mamie and Hazel McIntyre. Chee, as her grandchildren affectionately refer to her, was a doting and proud grandmother, always ready to share the latest pictures and accomplishments with anyone who would listen.
A Memorial Mass will be Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at St. Rose de Lima Church in Bay St. Louis, MS, at 10:00 am. The family will receive guests one hour prior to Mass.
