Bart Carr

Bartholomew “Bart” Carr passed away on November 20, 2023, at the age of 77. Bart was known to many as “Coach Carr.”

He married Brenda Gail Rayborn Carr on July 21, 1972.

Bart graduated from St. Stanislaus in 1965 and from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1974.

Coach Carr started his coaching career at Our Lady Academy in Bay St. Louis in 1974 and St. Clare in 1975. He also spent several years coaching football, among other sports, in Harrison County at both Pineville Elementary and North Gulfport. In 1984, Bart took his talents to Sixth Ward Junior High in Pearl River, La.

In 1985, Bart was called up to the big leagues to teach and coach at Boyet Junior High in Slidell, retiring in 2006. During his 21-year career coaching football at Boyet, he led the school to numerous parish championships, undefeated seasons, and even an undefeated and unscored-on season in 1996. Bart’s humor, dry wit, and sense of fairness touched the lives of thousands of students, educators, and friends throughout the years.

Bart was an avid golfer and member of Pass Christian Isles Golf Club. He consistently scored his age and 13 holes-in-one over his lifetime. Bart was a born again Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Bay St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by his mother Jessie Edith Spotorno Travirca, sisters Barbara Perron and Martha Lawson, and brother Waymon Carr. Bart is survived by his wife Gail Carr, sisters Lilian Hartgrove and Cynthia Brunet, sons: Chris Carr (Stacy), Brian Carr (Ashley), Cory Carr (Jenny), and Brett Carr (Morgan), as well as five grandchildren: Chandler, Nora, McKenzie, Dawson, and Davis.

Bart’s family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the numerous doctors, nurses, and other providers, especially those at Mississippi HomeCare and his personal care giver Emily Jefcoat.

A memorial service will be Saturday, November 25, 2023 at First Baptist Church, 141 Main Street, Bay St. Louis, MS. Visitation at 10 AM and service at 11.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to First Baptist Church of Bay St. Louis.

Edmond Fahey Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Bart Carr.
